    Welcome to Garrett Newbill

Mr. Newbill joins the Columbia Schools family as our music teacher. His first day was Tuesday, January 8th and he is quickly establishing positive relationships with our kids.

A great debr of gratittude is due Mr. Mike Young for keeping the music program "on the rails" the first part of this year.

If you have gently used instruments that are not being used, Mr. Newbill has $10,000 from a Hagan Foundation grant to repair/refurbish existing instruments and purchase new (used) instruments.

    Bomb Threat - January 15, 2019 Update

1.15.19 - A bomb threat was made in the boys bathroom in wirting in a stall. The staff immediately activated the evacuation protocol and made a report to Stevens County Sherriff's Dispatch. After evacuation students were moved to waiting buses parked on the far side of the parking lot for security and warmth. After bus drivers arrived, students and staff were transported to Cedonia Church and the reunification plan was intitiated. Parents were notified using the automated calling system and personal calls for families that did not respond to the automated call. Parents were informed that buses would run at 2:00 p.m. and that parents could pick-up their children at the church. All students were transported to warm, secure homes by school buses or parents. At 2:52 p.m. Stevens County Sherriff's made contact with school administrators and advised that the bomb dogs from BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad) did not indicate in their survey of the school and the school was avaialble for staff and students.

1.16.19 - Stevens County Sherriff Department investigating the Bomb Threat. Steven County Sherriff Investigator was present at the school all day.

1.17.19 . . .  - The investigation is ongoing with the Stevens County Sherriff department and with Columbia School Administration. Classes have returned to normal operation this morning.

Note: Juvenile names cannot be released as part of an investigation or disciplinary action. Students are protected by a Federal Law called F.E.R.P.A.

All staff and students responded to the bomb threat well and demonstrated calm and purpose to their actions - GREAT JOB!. The safety drills provided a good training protocol for this incident.

The Columbia School District wishes to thank Pastor Ed Dashiell and the Cedonia Church, Stevens County Sherriff Department, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
