For Columbia School students sexual health education will take place for two weeks in May (May 17-19 and 24-26, 2023) as a part of the overall health education curriculum.
Depending on your student's grade level, topics may include:
- HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STDs)
- Decision Making
- Consent and bystander roles
The new comprehensive sexual health curriculum can be found here.
The Columbia School District acknowledges that parents/guardians are the primary sexual health educators for their child/children and we are committed to partnering with you to provide supplementary resources to support you in this role.
Parents/guardians have the option of excluding their child from any portion of sexual health education instruction if it is in conflict with conscience, moral, or religious beliefs. If this is the case with your child, please fill out the exclusion form sent home with your child during conferences, and turn it in to the school office. Please find a copy of the form here if needed. This form will be mailed home on April 13th, 2023.Students who are excused will be assigned to study hall for the period. Student grades will not be affected regardless of their participation level.
